Outdoor ceremonies in Mid Wales
The Falcondale hotel and restaurant is a mid-Wales location just outside Lampeter, Ceredigion offering a countryside setting amongst lawns, bluebell woodland, apple orchard and rolling fields for your wedding day.
The I do’s
After you’ve said “yes” your thoughts will start turning towards the “I do’s”. For some it is an easy decision, i.e. their local church or chapel, for others it can be quite daunting and a difficult choice. There are a few options including:
- The registrar’s office with the two of you and witnesses which can be followed by a blessing within your chosen location with your family and friends.
- Choose a licensed premise where your invited family and friends can witness the signing of the registrar alongside you.
The first option (after the registrar’s office) can be pretty much anywhere you like. The second option would need to be within a premise that has been licensed to hold such ceremonies, these can be hotels, churches, a room within the registrar’s building, castles or even barns. Such places have been inspected by the local council and have been deemed “seemly and dignified”.
Outside Ceremonies
Did you know that “true” outside ceremonies are not legal? You must be married within a structure that holds a wedding license. At the Falcondale there is a Garden Gazebo that has been constructed for this very occasion. Available for civil ceremonies and partnerships throughout the summer season the garden gazebo is a licensed premise, with your guests taking their seats on the hard-surfaced exterior to view your vows.
Ceredigion registrar office
Contact the Ceredigion registrar on 01970 633580, or email registrar@ceredigion.gov.uk , as you will need to book a date and time for your ceremony. They will talk you through the process of “giving notice” and the do’s and dont’s of Civil Ceremonies and Partnerships. Remember that they will have fees that you must pay, which will be separate to any that you may have at your chosen venue.
Personalised for you
Your outdoor ceremony can be personalised to you and your wedding vibe. There are some specialist services in the area who can help you create your ideal setting. Pretty Seats and Bows have such a big range of chair covers, sashes, bows and wraps that they can create the atmosphere that you are looking for. They also provide beautiful chiavary chairs for that vintage chic vibe that is so on trend right now. How about some lawn games? Enchanted wedding hire have outdoor games that’ll perfectly compliment any outdoor wedding. And, as a bonus would be perfect in entertaining any child guests attending your wedding. Look also at Aber Bounce should you prefer the bigger bouncy castle options. Marcia & Daughters have flower pedestals, topiary, flower garlands and archways that would create a focal point as you move down the aisle. A certain WOW factor!
The unusual
In 2016 Michelle and Chris had photo frames hanging from trees so that their guests can use them as a selfie stations / photobooth. Sam Pendlebury took the opportunity to use them for some of the official photography also…
For those keen cyclists how about using a vintage bicycle to signpost guests in the right direction.

Do you or any of your relative have any old gardening tools / instruments / old carts/ rusty barrows / wooden wheels? They could be used to lean against trees and shrubs to hold signage for your wedding guests, or to plant flowers in them.
Whatever you choose, make it relevant to you and your partner to create a special day.
